History of O’Charley’s
O’Charley’s was founded in 1971 by Charles (Sonny) Watkins in Nashville, Tennessee. Watkins ran the restaurant himself for over a decade, but in 1984, he sold it to David K. Wachtel.
Wachtel was a former president and CEO of Shoney’s, another Nashville-based restaurant chain. He quickly began expanding O’Charley’s, opening new locations in Kentucky, Alabama, and other states. By 1987, there were 12 O’Charley’s restaurants in operation.
O’Charley’s continued to grow throughout the 1990s and 2000s. In 2000, the company went public, and in 2003, it acquired the Ninety Nine Restaurant & Pub chain.
Today, O’Charley’s is a casual dining restaurant chain with over 260 locations in 19 states. The company is known for its Southern comfort food menu, which includes items such as fried chicken, steak, and seafood. O’Charley’s offers a variety of family-style meals.
